Pitt County Transfer Station & Container Sites
The Pitt County Landfill, located at 3025 Landfill Road off of Allen Road, was officially closed in 1995. The site is now operated as a Transfer Station where garbage, recyclables and other materials are handled. Pitt County's municipal solid waste is transfered to East Carolina Environmental (subtitle D landfill) located in Bertie County.

Pitt County Memorial Hospital purchases the methane gas from the closed landfill, which is piped out to them, as an alternative source of energy.
The county also operates 14 County Container Sites for residents to drop off recyclables and household trash.
